Competitor comments after Stage 2: ADNOC Distribution

200      Nasser Al Attiyah / Mathieu Baumel (QAT / AND)

“It was not an easy day because we took more than four hours driving through the desert. But it was a good experience and we learnt a lot.

“We are excited about the next three days, and we hope to do our best to stay at the top in such a competitive event. Everybody is pressing so hard, but that’s nice, really nice.”

204      Jakub Przygonski / Timo Gottschalk (POL / DEU)

“We did good on what was a long and tough day. We followed Nasser and felt we were closing in on him. I am getting used to this car and now enjoy driving it.

“The early part was hard with too many big drops and this was dangerous. The last 20 kms was great with lots of small dunes.”

201      Yazeed Al Rajhi / Michael Orr (SAU / GBR)

“We were glad to be back. We had a puncture in the dunes when we let out some tyre pressure. But we fixed it and it was okay after that. It’s been a tough leg, but we got here in the end.”

202      Lucio Alvarez / Armand Monleon (ARG / SPA)

“It has been a tough, hard day made worse by a mistake we made. We lost time because of that.”

216      Michael Fadel / Craig Tyson (ARE / ARE)

“We had big issues with overheating, and hence a big loss of power. So, that is why we are here now.”

701      Martin Prokop / Viktor Chytka (CZE / CZE)

“It’s been a tough, tough day with very big drops in the dunes that made us go slow. The car is good and very strong.”

121      Makis Rees-Stravos (GBR)

“It’s been a long, long day with a big mix of terrain from fast sabka and then the big dunes with very soft sand.”

402      Eugenio Amos / Paolo Ceci (ITA / ITA)

“Half an hour before the refuelling I lost a bit of concentration which made me slower, and then I saw my team-mates (Austin Jones and Gustavo Gugelmin) two minutes faster. But in the last part we went flat out and I hope we have pulled back some time.”

400      Austin Jones / Gustavo Gugelmin (USA / BRA)

“We had a really good day today as we kept a good pace. Gustavo (co-driver) did a really good job and lost a bit of weight in the bargain (laughs).

“Overall, I am happy we’ve put ourselves in the right position. That’s what we came here to do and hopefully, we can keep it going and close this one out with a good result.”

410      Mansour Al Helei / Abdulla Dakhan (ARE / ARE)

“It was a very rough stage today, and now after the technical inspection the car does not start. We are glad we have finished.”

405      Rodrigo Luppi De Oliveira / Justo Maykel (BRA / BRA)

“You forget how hard the stages really are, but today was a really clean one. We just stopped for 30 seconds to give another driver a spare belt. I really liked the second part of the stage. I think we’re really going to have a good time.”

401      Kees Koolen / Mirjam Pol (NLD / NLD)

“We are feeling good after today’s stage which needed a lot of concentration because of the terrain. I always like coming to the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge because of the desert which is very beautiful, yet very demanding.”
