MAJOR GENERAL AL RUMAITHI VISITS ABU DHABI DESERT CHALLENGE

Sulayem says call to see rally action underlines vital government support for spectacular desert rally

 

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 28 March, 2018:  H.E. Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the General Authority for Sport, paid a visit to the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge Powered by Nissan today as the spectacular event continued on its penultimate leg.

Major General Al Rumaithiwas greeted by Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE and Emirates Motorsport Federation, at the bivouac, the rally’s desert base close to Qasr Al-Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara.

He watched some of the action on the penultimate leg of the event which forms the third round of the 2018 FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies for cars and buggies and the opening round of this year’s FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship for bikes and quads.

He also visited therally HQ and the Media Centre, where journalists from around the world are covering the 28th edition of the rally.

“We were very happy to welcome His Excellency whose encouragement motivates everyone connected with the event,” said Sulayem. “His visit has been a great boost for us all as it underlined the level of support the Desert Challenge receives from the government, without which the rally would not happen.”

The Desert Challenge is taking place under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dafrah Region.

The rally is supported by Abu Dhabi Police, the UAE Army, Al Dafrah Region Municipality, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Nissan Middle East, ADNOC, Abu Dhabi Aviation, Al-Ain Water, National Ambulance Service, Tadweer, Yas Marina Circuit and the Qasr Al-Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara.

The Desert Challenges finishes at Yas Marina Circuit at 3.30pm tomorrow.
